Trek Overview

An Alpine Meadow Like
No Other in India

The Valley of Flowers, nestled within the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is widely regarded as one of the subcontinent's most extraordinary natural environments. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this high-altitude meadow sits between 3,352 and 3,658 metres above sea level and supports a remarkable diversity of flora found nowhere else in India.

Brahmakamal Holidays has designed this 6-day programme to give you a comprehensive experience of the region — from the scenic mountain highway connecting Rishikesh to Joshimath, through the gradual ascent to Ghangaria base village, and into the heart of the blooming valley itself. Our itinerary also incorporates the revered Hemkund Sahib Gurudwara at 4,329 metres.

The programme is rated moderate difficulty, making it accessible to physically active individuals with no prior high-altitude trekking experience, provided they complete adequate preparation beforehand.

    Preparation Guide

Practical Tips for a Successful Trek

    🏃
    Physical Conditioning
Begin a cardiovascular fitness programme at least 4–6 weeks before departure. Daily brisk walks of 5–8 km with gradual incline increases significantly improve endurance for sustained uphill sections.
    👟
    Footwear Selection
Invest in waterproof, ankle-supporting trekking boots with Vibram or equivalent rubber soles. Break them in on 3–4 outdoor walks before the trek to prevent blistering.
    🥷
    Layering System
Mountain temperatures at altitude fluctuate 15–20°C between dawn and midday. Pack moisture-wicking base layers, an insulating fleece mid-layer, and a waterproof outer shell jacket.
    💧
    Hydration at Altitude
Consume a minimum of 3 litres of water daily. Altitude suppresses thirst signals — dehydration is a primary contributor to altitude-related fatigue. Avoid caffeinated beverages during the trek.
    UV Radiation Protection
Solar radiation intensity increases by ~4% per 300 metre altitude gain. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen every 2 hours and use polarised UV-400 sunglasses on exposed terrain.
    🎒
    Pack Weight Management
Limit your personal day pack to 6–8 kg. Excess weight is the primary cause of knee fatigue on steep descents. Prioritise water, layers, snacks and a first aid kit.
    🏥
    Altitude Awareness
Symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness include persistent headache, nausea and disrupted sleep. Inform your guide immediately — do not ascend further until fully symptom-free.
    🌿
    Conservation Responsibility
The Valley of Flowers is a protected national park. Collecting flora, straying off marked paths, or leaving waste within the valley carries legal penalties under the Wildlife Protection Act.
    📱
    Connectivity & Electronics
Mobile network coverage is limited beyond Joshimath. Carry a power bank and store copies of your ID and emergency contacts in an offline format.
